I lifted an old, pitted saw blade

from the dirt floor of the barn and tossed it into the trash bin…

Well, that’s what someone else would have done– I wiped it clean with my sleeve and turned it over in my hands. I saw something in that old piece of used metal. It wasn’t just trash, it was a knife that could split a tomato and leave the cutting board dry. You might not have seen it, but it was there, waiting to be pulled out and shaped into a blade, ground to a razor; it was there, waiting to be fitted with a handle that defined the word erg­onomics… I set down the metal and handled something else: an angle grinder.

A used cutoff blade, an angle grinder, and a vision for the potential was all I had… and all I needed.

I found something that ignited me that day, something that stoked a God-given drive to create art– DaBeachy was born that day.

It’s been many hours, knives and tool upgrades to bring DaBeachy here, everyday is a blessing and a privilege to continue pursuing an art that I find so fulfilling.

Dietrich Alexander Beachy is a young artisan born in 2004. A resident of Surry VA, he was schooled at home, the son of a small business owner and hobby farmer who instilled work ethics and the principle: “good is the enemy of best” into his children.
